Inspired by the solar simulators built to test NASA’s Parker Solar Probe—a mission to study the sun—our founders adapted this space-grade technology to transform how coffee is roasted.
These simulators used LED light 20x stronger than Earth’s sunlight in a vacuum environment to replicate conditions near the sun. While monitoring these tests, one idea kept surfacing: Could we roast coffee with this?
When the world paused during COVID, our team of physicists and engineers got to work. Two years of experimentation later, Luminary Roast™ was born.
A New Kind of Coffee Craft
Roasted With Light, Not Fire
Traditional roasting uses fire and hot air, which burn oils and leave behind bitter compounds.
We eliminated combustion entirely.
Instead, we roast with precision-controlled LED light in a vacuum chamber—gently caramelizing the beans without the smoke, burn, or acrid aftertaste.
This process reduces compounds linked to cancer and high cholesterol while unlocking cleaner, bolder flavor.
